I like this meme!! :) It’s one thing to hear about what other people think but it’s another to hear what you, the artist, think about your own style! Are they the same? Are they different? Why is that?

…didn’t bother reblogging the ask one because no one ever asks/tells me ANYTHING. or maybe I just didn’t receive it. /sobbbbbb ;A;

so. style-wise, I am in a very inconsistent stage atm. It’s changing with every drawing. I guess I’m in the awkward in between stage.

however, I will try to describe generally how I think my style is morphing:

well, I never really defined my style until a friend commented on how my drawings seem to have a sort of European influence, while still retaining some elements of manga etc. So I sort of took that as an inspiration and started implementing more European elements into my drawings (e.g. costumes, lower eyebrows etc). I am also deeply inspired by Victorian dolls and Lolita/dolly-kei.

I focus most of the time on the face of the character I’m drawing. Usually, I make sure that the proportions of the face are reasonable (i.e. no incredibly shoujo large eyes, “anime noses” or line mouth…). From this, I guess, I developed a taste for semi-realism. When drawing on paper, I think my style most closely fits josei. I like using lines a lot. I’m not much of a color person…on paper I would usually cross-hatch rather than shade in with markers.

In the past few months, I’ve been experimenting with CG a lot. My process before was rather methodical: sketch, line, multiply layers and color. However, playing around with pchat made me realize the possibilities of mixing up layers. I started drawing on one layer, which yielded a completely different effect: more painterly and soft, less stiff. I feel like my style has almost completely drifted away from manga (digital-wise). I’m trying to bring that influence back and reincorporate it into my drawings, although it’s really hard to control the exact direction of my style.

Well. Today mom and I went and raided Wal-Mart for anything I’ll need when school starts (which is in little more than a week!). We were throwing all kinds of stuff into the cart: laundry baskets, towels, nail clipper, blow dryer—-

Then it kind of hit me. I’m moving out.

I haven’t really been “away” from my parents since I was 7, when I lived with my relatives in China for a year. That year isn’t a very joyful part of my memory and I missed my parents dearly, but I was only 7. Now, 11 years later, I’m really about to leave my parents and start my own life.

I’m sure, like myself, plenty of teenagers have, at least at one point in time, dreamt of living away from home where the nagging voice of your mother can no longer reach you. But it just feels so unreal that this is all happening! Watching my mom walk around and around the store worrying about every circumstance that would ever occur and what I would need in case anything (and I mean, ANYTHING) happens wells up this warm, bittersweet feeling in me. While I’m still super excited to move in and meet all the other people on my floor, I can’t help feeling this tinge of sadness when I think that I will no longer wake up to fried eggs in soy sauce, with a liquid yolk but firm egg white and a nice cup of orange pekoe. I can no longer whine about something I haven’t eaten forever and see it on my dinner table by evening. I can no longer act lazy and lounge on the couch, pretending to have a stomach ache to avoid cleaning up my mess, and still find my room magically spotless. I owe my parents so much, little of which I have truly realized until now.

That aside, I have a little more confidence in my ability to survive on my own than my parents do. I simply cannot wait to start school again! Wish me luck! :)

UHH I’ve never been on a date before OTL OTL (I am so doomed to be a cat lady. LOL) I don’t know really. Something like a walk in a park or dinner or something. Well, I guess I’d enjoy it if I were with a person I like! :)

I SEE WHAT YOU DID THAR. I’d say I hate the subjectivity of everything…how unfair it is to have different teachers, be evaluated on different standards, etc. In an ideal world, everyone would be judged by the same standards. But we all know that’s never going to happen.

I don’t like girly/pretty guys (although I know people who do). I think a man should look like a man and have the guts to say what he wants to say. Generally, I find tallness and the elusive “triangular torso” attractive in guys. This is going to sound really phoney, but I don’t hate anyone. I reasoned this out with myself a long time ago: if there’s a person I dislike, I will stay away from them. Therefore, I will only have people I care about and people I don’t care about. I have no intention of wasting my time talking to a person I dislike. However, I am easily angered by chauvinistic comments…

Well, if I ever get a tattoo, it’ll probably be somewhere where no one will be able to see. I think it’s very important to have a professional appearance when I graduate and start working, and I don’t want to be limited in terms of what clothes I wear because of any tattoos. However, I love the look of tattoo roses. I’ll probably design it myself too! :D

10. Meaning behind my URL

kuicg = kui + CG

Kui is the general name I use online, which means “sunflower” in Chinese. I think sunflowers are very pretty and cheerful, and I wish my own chinese name had something to do with it…but it doesn’t. Don’t ask, but I hate my chinese name OTL.

CG = computer graphics. Which is what I like to spend a lot of my time on lol, even if I’m not great at it |D
