This is a well-known mathematical illusion. In the video, it seems that the pieces he moves around on the bottom have the same slope, like the red line shown here:

However, as he swaps pieces 3 and 4, he demonstrates that the length of the left side is now 1 more than what it originally was by knocking one row of blocks to the right, and that the length of the right side is now 1 less than the original by adding it to the right side. So when he moves the last row over, voila! A block has been “spontaneously generated”.

Hold on…how is this possible? How can something just come from nowhere? If this were true, we should be able to generate free energy SO WHY AM I PAYING MY INTERNET BILL???

That’s because this is an illusion, relying on the inability of the human eye to see what’s really going on.

But let us humour the possibility of this being true. Supposing that the blocks behave as shown in the video, it is easy to deduce that the slope of piece 3 would be 4/1=4, since it moved 4 units over and 1 unit up. However, from the same method we can determine the slope of piece 4 to be 3/1=3, since it moved 3 units left and 1 down.

4 is not equal to 3. So here, we are confronted with the truth. The red line in the first diagram is, in fact, not a line. It is composed of 2 line segments of different slopes, made to look like a line. This is either achieved from the cut of the blocks (they might have a slanted face that’s not entirely visible) or from editing. The 3 blocks he magically produced have the same volume as the gaps left behind in the array of blocks.
